For Healthcare Providers
As a practicing physician, I know the frustration of trying to help patients while everything in the medical culture is working against you. Time, RVUs, EMRs, and the sick-care model makes really helping your patients with metabolic disease almost impossible.
I know you want an option outside of just throwing more drugs at them and telling them to “eat better”, which amounts to “figure it out.”
I’m here to help.
Unlike many nutrition programs out there, my approach is different. I have the physiology understanding of a physician, not the standard FDA-trained, calorie-counting dietician. They have their role, but that approach fails for so many of our patients.
The Rhize approach can help your patients with metabolic concerns up to and including Metabolic Syndrome improve their health with a whole-foods based approach to nutrition. While this doesn’t guarantee reversal of metabolic illness, it can help improve symptoms and slow progression. For many people, improving their diet can help decrease reliance on medications for some diagnoses.
My credentials include a BA in Biology from Baylor University, an MD from UT Southwestern in Dallas, and Pediatrics residency from Dallas Children’s. I have been in hospital-based practice since 2007.
I have also had my own nutrition and weight loss journey, so I can connect with patients on a personal level. You can read more of my story here.
The Rhize Philosophy:
We work to eliminate processed foods including processed sugars and grains, seed oils, additives and preservatives.
We use concepts of neuroplasticity to change the way we THINK about food, and to manage cravings.
We learn not just about nutrition, but hormonal responses to food, and listening to hunger, satiety, and stress signals. We learn stress management techniques such as exercise, journaling, meditation, and using laughter medicinally.
We use a small-group community approach to support one another an offer accountability.
The Ideal Rhize Client:
Motivated.
Has a desire to make lifestyle changes, but needs education and support to stick with it.
Has at least average reading and comprehension abilities.
Can cover the cost. At this time, I am unable to bill insurance or accept health savings dollars. Full cost is $397, but I often run promotions and sales.
May have metabolic disease or pre-metabolic disease, or just want to lose weight in a healthy way.
Requiring medication is okay. I will encourage them to monitor any biometrics such as blood pressure or glucose more frequently while making lifestyle changes, and to keep in touch with YOU to make any medication adjustments or follow labs.
I do not and will not offer patient-specific medical advice.
What I Ask From You:
Encourage your patient to participate, do the work, and engage. They will get out of the program as much as they put in.
Track their progress. Offer to see them monthly or bimonthly while they are in the program as added accountability.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or feedback. You can reach me anytime at admin@rhizejourney.com.
Follow their diagnosis-specific biometrics more closely. As you know, while making significant dietary and lifestyle changes, metrics like blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose can change rapidly. Some patients will need medication dosing adjustments.
For patients on any medications, encourage close communication with your office. Make sure they are aware of symptoms of low blood pressure, low glucose, etc. Set them up for home monitoring as applicable.
